Dear Friend,

As a former Ward Councilor in my home city of Quincy, I have often said that the
toughest jobs in public service are at the local level -- and the job of Mayor tops the list.

As Mayor, you have authority and responsibility for public health, safety and education.
What could possibly be more important? Every day, the Mayor makes dozens of
decisions that directly affect the quality of life of our entire community. And as a voter,
no decision matters more. That’s why I urge you to vote on November 6, for Sue Kay
for Mayor of Weymouth.

With unprecedented demands and shrinking resources, your next Mayor must have the
vision to imagine the Weymouth of tomorrow; the skill to translate priorities into results;
the tenacity to confront challenges and embrace opportunities. Most of all from our next
Mayor, we need the kind of innate common sense and grit that befits this town.

The next few years won’t be easy for Weymouth. There is no time for on-the-job
training. It’s essential to elect a leader who lives and breathes municipal government and
who’s thoroughly grounded in our community. Sue Kay is that leader.

Sue Kay brings expertise in municipal finance and personnel management; she’s served
not only as Weymouth Selectman and Town Councilor, but also as Braintree’s Executive
Secretary, where she managed a $100 million budget, negotiated contracts and managed
personnel. From elderly housing to youth soccer, Sue Kay has led by example. That’s
why she’s so well respected by colleagues at the state and federal level – all of whom will
be by her side after her inauguration to work with her for Weymouth’s future.

I commend all the candidates who have made the commitment and sacrifice to seek
office and it is frankly rare for me to voice my personal views in a local contest. But in
this case, I feel so strongly that I had to speak out. When Weymouth resolved in 1999 to
incorporate a new form of government, it represented a commitment to new
professionalism and accountability in town governance. That was a bold step forward –
one brimming with hope and pride in Weymouth.

Now you have the chance to reinvigorate this community from the top. In this election,
there’s a candidate for mayor who will win you over with her head and her heart: my
friend and colleague, Sue Kay. Please go to the polls on November 6 and elect Sue Kay
the next Mayor of Weymouth.

Sincerely,

Congressman Bill Delahunt
