Naval Air Station (Southfield)

In 2005, a plan for the reuse of the former naval air station was approved by Weymouth, Abington and Rockland. Together, they have proceeded to implement the Plan. As you know, the plan includes some recreation space, residential units and commercial facilities.

Recently, a MEPA certificate was approved by the Commonwealth. It permitted the project to proceed with limitations. As you can see, some of the improvements to the area has begun.

Weymouth has been promised $2 million through its host community agreement. It has not been paid because the Navy has not completed the process by which the land is transferred to the Board of Directors.

I promise that I will work closely with the Board of Directors, State and Federal elected officials to make this happen. The Town is in need of those funds, it will fall on the next Mayor to insure completion.

This is not to say, that the development should proceed unmonitored. I will take every action necessary to insure that the development will proceed with as little impact on the Town as possible. I will be in constant communication with all the parties, including LNR to provide as much input as possible.

Our voices must always and consistently be heard in a project that will be the only substantial growth in Weymouth for the foreseeable future.
