During the term of the next Mayor of Weymouth, the charter will come under review. That process is a requirement of the charter adopted by you, the citizens. The review process must include all aspects of government: the citizens it effects, the Town Council, the School Department and the Administration. I will work diligently to insure that all of these groups with varying points of view have direct input into the process of the review and in making those changes a part of the charter as it proceeds into its second decade.

Through my experience I know that there are several changes which must be carefully studied;

The timing of the school budget must change as the school department must now plan in December for a budget which will go into effect the following July

The timing of the Town’s budget submittal must also change . Over the past 8 years, the budget has been announced before the Department of Revenue has released state aid revenues which constitute approximately one quarter of our budget

A change which permits the town council to approve of all appointees seeking to represent Weymouth on the South Shore Tri-town Development Corporation. Currently, the Council has no input into this appointment and the process is not subject to public scrutiny.
