Development (building) As you know, the 2001 Town of Weymouth master plan stated that the Town is 95% built out. Given this fact, it is obvious that there are no large tracks of land for new growth. Any new growth to the tax base must come from existing parcels of land and the buildings on them. While the Mayor does not directly control the outcome of a decision of the Conservation Commission, the Planning Board or the Zoning Board of Appeals, she does have the power to appoint members of those committees. As your Mayor, I will seek out and send to Council for approval only those candidates who are sensitive to the needs of the community. It is that type of appointment who will balance the need for growth with the intrinsic need of the community to keep the each land attractive. Each of these boards have the power to order and enforce conditions on land. It is at this level that we can insure that there is the attention to the esthetics as well as the owners need to make improvements. |
