Schools

We have been fortunate in Weymouth to exceed, on an annual basis, the state’s mandate for school spending. Our spending has enabled us to build and equip a new high school and renovate and expand the Academy Ave School. I am proud of my votes on these two projects. The timeliness of those votes enabled the town to take advantage of significant state contributions.

Furthermore, we have been able to keep up with necessary capital repairs to our school buildings through the use of bond issues.

In addition, we have been able to hire new teachers each year over the past few years and stabilize our special education costs. In fact, our school system has achieved statewide recognition for excellence. We cannot turn back now.

Even with fiscal constraints, we must insure that the education we do provide to our children will equip them with the skills they will need for their future.

As mayor, I will have a seat on the school committee. When I sit on that committee, I will actively participate in all discussions and votes. The school department is an important part of the Town and I will constantly interact with the School Committee and its Administration.
